1) Every time I give to a charity, I get mail from other charities that I just throw out and phone calls at dinner time. Will ACT do that?
2) What if I don't want to receive mail or calls sometime?
3) You won't sell my name, will you?
4) Isn't there a way to send me information or ask for money without me throwing so much paper in the blue box?
5) Do you get junk mail too?
Whether you call it junk mail or direct mail or something very rude, a lot of charities like ACT send donation requests in the mail for one simple reason: it works.
A lot of charities rely on the dollars that mail can bring in. And we make phone calls, too, for the same reason.
We send out mail several times year and often to people who have given before because our current donors and our new donors are very generous.
For some people, the letters are a reminder that HIV/AIDS is still here. For others, the letters inform people about what is happening at ACT and about different ways to make a gift. Still others look at the envelope and wish we would stop sending the mail.
We don't want to bother you. We want you to understand what important work we can accomplish with your support. Send us an email at email@example.com or call us at 416-340-8484, ext. 279 and tell us what you want us to do.
We hope you won't say stop it altogether. A lot of times people look at those envelopes and think it costs a lot of money to send those things out. We try to spend under $2.00 per letter. What we get back is an average per letter many times that toonie.
No, we won't. What we will do - with your permission - is trade your name with other charities with similar values about maintaining health and strong communities. One way for us to find new donors is to trade with other charities. And we do discover new donors who want us to continue helping people.
If you want to receive from ACT and no one else, just call or email us to let us know. If you are receiving a lot of unwanted mail, contact the Canadian Marketing Association and follow the information there to stop the junk mail.
Yes, there is. You could sign up as a monthly donor. Every month through your credit card, chequing account or even your pay cheque, you could give what seems like a small amount which will add up quickly for us to help others. Once a year, we will ask you via phone, mail or email if you would consider increasing your monthly donation.
Yes. It seems like a fact of life that we all get mail from charities and businesses that we didn't know knew us. As individuals, we all have a lot of power to give or not give to agencies that don't respect our wishes.
That is why we want to make sure that you aren't bothered so that you stop giving. Please remember, ACT is here to provide services that would not otherwise be available. And we do it with you.
