HIV Care Doctors in Toronto

About the Doctors listed

All of the doctors on this list have told us they would like to have HIV-positive people as clients, and they have the knowledge and expertise needed to meet the unique needs of people living with HIV. Some of the doctors on this list are members of the Toronto HIV Primary Physicians Group, which brings together doctors who share a common interest in discussing current and emerging issues and strategies related to HIV/AIDS. The goal of the Group is to pass knowledge and experience along to each other in order to stay informed. Most of the doctors who belong to this Group have a lot of HIV-positive patients. Doctors pay an annual fee to belong to the Group.

Another resource you can check to find doctors who are accepting new patients is the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. They can be contacted at 416-967-2603 or toll free at 1-800-268-7096 ext. 306. Or, you can search their “Doctor Search” database at: http://www.cpso.on.ca/docsearch.

If you have a concern about the care you have received from your doctor, you should speak to your doctor right away. Most problems can be settled quickly and simply by talking it over with your doctor. But if you feel you can’t discuss the problem with your doctor directly, you may want to speak with a friend or community worker first. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario also has intake officers that you can speak with to discuss your concerns and explore the options available to you (including lodging a formal complaint). In some cases, the intake
officer can resolve your concerns over the phone. Call 416-967-2615 to speak with an intake officer.

As much as you may grow to like your doctor, the relationship should remain professional at all times. Sexual advances by any doctor constitute harassment and an abuse of the client/doctor relationship. You should report any such behaviour to the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
