O que é a Coligação do VIVER?/ What is the VIVER Coalition?
A Coligação VIVER:
VIVER é uma coligação de agências de língua portugesa que oferece informações e serviços sobre VIH/SIDA/AIDS. Surgiu em 15 de Maio de 1997, de uma reunião pública sobre SIDA/AIDS, organizada pela St. Stephen’s Commnity House, na qual participaram funcionários de serviços sociais portugueses, pessoas que vivem com VIH/SIDA/AIDS, e outros membros da comunidade. Nesta reunião foi identificada uma lacuna nos serviços em português sobre esta doença. Também foi indentificada a necessidade de aumentar o contacto com a comunidade e desenvolver educação sobre VIH/ HIV para pessoas de língua portuguesa. Devido a barreiras culturais, religiosas, linguísticas, literárias e socio-económicas, esta comunidade tem sentido, frequentemente, a falta de acesso aos serviços médicos em língua inglesa sobre VIH/SIDA/AIDS. A Coligação VIVER iniciou em 1998 um projecto em conjunto com o AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) para servir a comunidade de língua portuguesa.
The VIVER Coalition:
VIVER - - the Portuguese-speaking HIV/AIDS Coalition - - emerged from an AIDS forum organized by St. Stephen’s Community House on May 15, 1997. In attendance were Portuguese-speaking social service providers, people living with HIV/AIDS and other community members. The forum revealed a tremendous gap in service to people infected and affected with this illness, as well as the need to increase outreach and education to Portuguese-speaking communities. Due to cultural, religious, linguistic, literacy, and socio-economic barriers, Portuguese-speaking communities have traditionally experienced limited access to English-speaking, mainstream HIV/AIDS services. In 1998, VIVER started to work in partnership with the AIDS Committee of Toronto to benefit the Portuguese-speaking community.

VIVER promove programas e serviços de prevenção, advocacia e conscientização sobre o risco de contrair VIH/HIV e/ou SIDA/AIDS, reconhecendo e respeitando as diversidades e diferenças culturais e linguísticas das comunidades de língua portuguesa em Toronto.
Our Mission:
VIVER works with the Portuguese-speaking communities of Toronto to promote culturally competent and language specific awareness, prevention and advocacy programs and to eliminate barriers for Portuguese-speaking people living with, affected by, and at risk for HIV/AIDS.
