Women's Programs (Contd.)
ACT is committed to developing HIV prevention and support services for women. We're here for women who are living with HIV/AIDS, at risk for HIV infection, or who know someone living with HIV/AIDS.
In 1989, ACT launched its Women and AIDS Outreach Project in response to the trend of HIV transmissions among women. Initially the project focused on generating awareness of HIV risks to all women. Through participation on committees, networking and information gathered in workshops, the Women and AIDS Project staff discovered overwhelming HIV information and skill gaps regarding women and HIV/AIDS among community workers, health and social services and other staff at women-serving agencies.
Today, ACT works within the community to identify and meet the needs of service providers who work with at-risk women, provides direct education and outreach to women at increased risk of HIV infection, and provides infromation, support and networking opportunities for women living with HIV/AIDS.
If you are a woman living with HIV/AIDS, ACT provides lots of information and support services to help you live better with HIV or AIDS. We offer several specific programs just for women living with HIV/AIDS. Contact us to find out more.
If you do not have HIV or you've never been tested for HIV, ACT is here for you, too. We also offer information and services to help you avoid infection with HIV.
