Summary:
This position is responsible for leading and developing ACT’s Fund Development activities including a variety of fund-raising programs, all to provide long term funding stability for the organization. The incumbent will seek out opportunities to strengthen fund-raising opportunities for ACT while directing department initiatives that are in keeping with ACT’s values and philosophy, its strategic directions and which adhere to standards of excellence. Specific duties and responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to the following:


Strategic Fund Development

Provide strategic leadership in the conceptualization, development, implementation, management and evaluation of all fund-raising programs including special events, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, community events, individual and major gifts. Specifically, the incumbent will:
    · Lead strategic planning and program reviews for fund development and design appropriate programs to respond.
    · Develop a fund development plan to identify priorities and guide annual activities.
    · Develop a case for support for the organization that reflects agency needs and evolving issues related to HIV/AIDS.
    · Assess the feasibility of new fund-raising projects.
    · Oversee enhancement of donor-centered systems and processes.
    · Develop and execute corporate fund-raising strategies, including prospect research, business plans, drafting proposals, developing briefing documents and kits.
    · Maintain awareness of business environment and conduct competitor analysis.
    · Lead orchestration of donor relations events (i.e. invitations, guest list), with support from Manager of Special Events on venue, catering and decor.
    · Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective and current corporate donors and sponsors.
    · Develop and maintain a submission cycle calendar for renewals and prospects.
    · Ensure corporate donor recognition commitments are fulfilled.
    · Produce sponsor agreements and complete corporate donor reports as required.
    · Work to develop and implement a robust Individual and Major Gift Program for approaching individual donors and prospective donors with an aim to achieve revenue targets. Activities include annual individual giving areas such as direct mail campaigns, a major gift strategy, telemarketing and on-line fund-raising.
    · Develop strategies for approaching selected foundations to achieve revenue targets.
    · Work on the development of promotional strategies for Planned Giving including materials such as brochures, flyers, public service advertisements.
    · Give direction and coordination to fund development staff (and Fund Development Committee members as required) in order to cultivate and solicit donor prospects and current donors, and any stewardship, reports and donor recognition.


Organizational Strengthening and Development
    · Participate in the ongoing development, evaluation and implementation of operational and strategic plans.
    · Participate in agency-wide organizational change/development initiatives that will strengthen the agency.
    · Provide staff support to the Fund Development Committee of the Board in addition to supporting all committees and ad hoc working groups linked to achieving the goals of the Fund Development Committee of the Board.
    · Participate in Management Team meetings and provide required reports to facilitate strategic and critical thinking and decision-making.
    · Participate in development and implementation of agency quality assurance and risk management processes, as they pertain to departmental responsibilities.

Community Representation, External Networking and Linkages
    · Assist in the development, implementation and ongoing renewal of the Management Team’s strategy to build and nurture relationships with key external stakeholder groups.
    · Be the key contact for all donors, sponsorship approaches, presentations and sponsorship agreements.
    · Establish and maintain professional contacts with other agencies, community partners, sponsors and potential sponsors while continuously seeking partnership opportunities.
    · Seek out and take advantage of public speaking opportunities to promote ACT’s mission, programs and services and philosophical approaches to community-based work, within a development, marketing and stewardship perspective.

Staff Management
    · Within a unionized environment, manage all staffing and development processes including hiring employees; assigning responsibilities; establishing standards of performance; providing orientation, training and ongoing guidance; monitoring work performance to ensure adherence to authorized procedures; identifying staff training needs; implementing training, evaluating job performance, initiating discipline, as required and responding to grievances at the first stage.
    · Create an environment within the Development Team that is oriented to trust, mentorship, open communication, creative thinking and cohesion.
    · Support the recruitment, training and motivation of senior volunteers to work on events, major gifts, corporate campaigns and planned giving.
    · Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.

Financial Management and Administration
    · Ensure fund-raising/event budgets are prepared and monitored in keeping with the parameters set by the Executive Director and the Board.
    · Lead departmental budgeting process with staff, committees and event teams as well as oversee all administrative tasks for the department.
    · Oversee administrative tasks of department staff, i.e. timesheets, purchase orders.
    · Produce program reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Fund Development Committee, corporate sponsors and other bodies, as required.
    · Provide support to the Executive Director and other members of the Management Team as required.
    · Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
