LEGISLATED BENEFITS


The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) complies with legislation incumbent upon employers,including:

EMPLOYER HEALTH TAX (EHT)

1. ACT is required to pay the designated percentage of each employee's gross annual earnings to the Provincial Government for health care coverage.

2. This tax covers most doctors' fees, ward coverage in hospitals, and general medical expenses incurred in attending to medical requirements in accordance with Ontario Fee Schedules.

WORKPLACE SAFETY INSURANCE BOARD

1. If an employee is injured on the job or suffers from an occupational illness, resulting in lost time and requiring medical treatment, compensation is paid in accordance with the WSIB. (Also see Incident Reports, AM #'s 8-100 and 8-101.)

2. Where an illness or accident occurs which is compensable by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board, the employee is paid for the balance of the shift during which the illness or accident occurred. Such payment is not to be charged against an employee's sick leave time.

3. ACT pays the employee at the employee's regular net salary for the waiting period until WSIB benefits begin and pays the difference between such compensation benefits and the employee's regular net salary during the period the employee receives WSIB benefits.

EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE COMMISSION (EIC)

1. Employment insurance provides income during absence from work due to specific situations such as extended illness, pregnancy or layoff.

2. Both ACT and its employees are required to contribute amounts as determined by the Federal Government. Deductions are made and remitted by ACT.

3. Eligibility requirements are determined by law.


4. Upon termination of employment with ACT, a statement of insured earnings and insurable hours (Record of Employment) is provided by the Human Resources Coordinator.

CANADA PENSION PLAN

1. The plan provides benefits in the event of retirement, disability or death.

2. ACT is required to deduct premiums from all employees who are age 18 or over. Both ACT and its employees contribute an equal amount to this plan. The amount of deduction is established annually by the Federal Government. Deductions are made and remitted by ACT.
