HEALTH AND SAFETY


Health and safety refers to physical safety and health related to the workplace.

In accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Collective Agreement (article 26.7):

1. The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) has a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee with equal management and Union staff representation (two management representatives and two Union staff representatives).

2. The Committee's membership is to be posted.

3. The Committee is responsible to:

a) identify and evaluate potential hazards in the workplace including an annual building inspection;

b) make written recommendations for corrective action; and

c) follow-up with the Executive Director or designate to determine whether the recommendations have been acted upon.

4. Staff members may bring verbal or written health and safety concerns to the attention of the Committee. Volunteers may submit concerns via their supervisors to the Committee.

5. The Committee is responsible to:

a) evaluate identified concerns, and

b) assess the required actions and act accordingly with respect to the urgency of the situation.
