LAYING CHARGES

The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) respects the right of all employees and volunteers to lay criminal charges against service users where the agency believes there is evidence to support the charges.

When an employee or volunteer is considering laying charges against a service user, the employee/volunteer is to consult with the immediate supervisor before the charge is laid.

Note:

Charges may be laid in two ways:

1. The police lay a charge on behalf of the victim based upon their investigation.

2. An individual may lay a charge through the Justice of the Peace.
