REQUESTING A VOLUNTEER

To request a volunteer, an employee is to complete the volunteer request form including the manager's signature and submit the form to Volunteer Services. Where possible, staff members are required to provide a position description (or draft). All parties should understand that the recruitment of volunteers is enhanced by creative and interesting volunteer jobs and by advance notice. Volunteer services reserves the right to refuse to recruit or place any volunteers until staff are prepared to make effective use of volunteer resources.

AD HOC REQUESTS

For ad hoc requests, such as staffing tables, distributing information and administrative support, Volunteer Services can recruit from existing volunteer bases. At least two weeks notice is required. If an advertisement in the Volunteer Bulletin is needed, more notice is required.

NEW PROGRAMS/SPECIALIZED REQUESTS

For ongoing program positions (such as a buddy, a driver, or a volunteer for a new program) or for individuals with specific experience (such as library or accounting), Volunteer Services must build the recruitment into the work plan. Volunteer orientations are conducted only three or four times a year. Program Coordinators are responsible for communicating their volunteer needs to the Program Volunteer Coordinator so there is sufficient time for external recruitment.
