PYO Drop In Peer Facilitator

ACT's Mission Statement | The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) develops and delivers innovative programs and services that promote the dignity, health and well-being of individuals and communities living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS.. | ||
Purpose | To co-facilitate with the PYO Program Coordinator PYO's weekly Social Support Drop In, which is for HIV positive youth under the age of 30. | ||

Time Commitment | 4 hours per week for 2 months Details: 4 to 5 hours per week for approximately 10 week committment | ||
Duties | The Volunteer will: -participate in ACT's Volunteer Core Skills Training -provides group and one-on-one information, assessment, referral, empower self advocacy and peer support services to HIV positive youth -keep PYO Coordinator informed of availability to attend drop in's -participate in one on one and group discussions with participants of the Drop In Program -participate in regular supervision with the PYO Program Co-ordinator -relay information and items of interest provided by PYO Coordinator and other ACT personnel to Drop In participants (i.e. free tickets, upcoming events, etc.). | ||
Personal Qualities and Skills | Required Qualities & Skills: -possesses sufficient personal resources/support system to successfully engage in the challenges associated with direct service with PYO participants -- knowledge of the psychosocial issues related to HIV/AIDS or relationship to communities impacted by HIV/AIDS - ability to work co-operatively with others. - fully committed to a 'client-centered' approach to group facilitation. -ongoing practice and ability to demonstrate self-care | ||
