ACT's Mission Statement | The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) delivers responsive, effective, and valued community-based HIV support services and education, prevention, outreach and fundraising programs that promote the health, well-being, worth and rights of individuals and communities living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS, and increase awareness of HIV/AIDS. | ||
Programme/Event Mission Statement | The Library provides information to people and organizations who want to know about the psychosocial aspects of living with or being affected by HIV/AIDS. We collect and organize information that is appropriate to the needs of our clients and that supports the prevention, education, and support work done at ACT. | ||
Purpose | To create bibliographies on popular topics or by client request. These bibliographes may made into handouts, incorporated into existing information packets, or created for particular occasions. | ||
Benefits | In the process of creating a bibliography, the volunteer must become acquainted with many of the resources in the Library. Creating bibliographies is a great way to become more familiar with the content of the collection and HIV/AIDS issues in general. | ||
Time Commitment | 4 hours per week for 6 months | ||
Duties | The Volunteer will: -Research topics using the resources at the ACT Library -Evaluate material on the basis of literacy, format, and the mission and values of ACT -Use a standard bibliographic format, such as the "Chicago Manual of Style" | ||
Personal Qualities and Skills | Required Qualities & Skills: -Familiarity with research in libraries, using indexes and online catalogues -Familiarity with bibliographic formats -Familiarity with HIV and AIDS issues -Attention to detail | ||
Training Requirements | Volunteer Core Skills Training, Program-Specific Training, On-the-job Training with Supervisor and/or other Volunteers | ||
