The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) develops and delivers innovative programs and services that promote the dignity, health and well-being of individuals and communities living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS..





Purpose


To provide all persons living with HIV/AIDS the opportunity to receive private and confidential consultations for matters arising with short term disabilities ( STD's) and long term disabilities (LTD's) : Disability coverage, returning to work issues and benefit coverage. Additionally health insurance claims, claims procedures, benefits entitlements and other related issues.


Time Commitment


3 hours per week
for 12 months

Duties


The Volunteer will:
Be prepared to commit, on a regular day each week, a three hour schedule for clients.
One on one consultation with clients.
Able to offer solutions of help if disability support has be ceased.
Assesment of Insurance needs
Report to the Practical assistance coordinator, in confidence, any problems or concerns.



Personal Qualities
and Skills


Required Qualities & Skills:
Must have a working and current knowledge of the Insurance benefit requirements relating to persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Knowledge of both group and Individual Insurance terms.
Full Knowledge of plans provided by the government.
Self Motivation and out going nature.
Second language an asset but not essential.
