Gender Imbalance - Power Difference Between Men and Women

Gender imbalance speaks to an unequal power relationship, or access to power, between men and women. In economic terms this may mean unequal pay for equal work

Women’s paid work has been treated as an additional rather than a primary role, which implies an unstated, stereotyped assumption of a traditional unpaid role for women as homemakers. (A full Measure: Women’s occupational Status and Health, Colleen Reid) In social terms, the perception of the gender specific role of women can result in power imbalances in our partnerships such as exclusion from the decision making process within the home and relationship or restricted access to information and resources. A woman’s inability to negotiate within relationship or have access to resources effect her ability to advocate on her own behalf or make informed choices for her safety, health and advancement.
