We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Accessible space

ACT’s offices are accessible to mobility devices, including washrooms. Elevator buttons are lowered (to accommodate people in mobility devices) and include braille type for each floor in the building. ACT has put the following procedures in place to prevent service disruptions to the accessible parts of its public spaces.

  • ensure that the elevator is maintained in order to ensure access to our offices.
  • in the event the elevator is temporarily out of service, we will notify the public of the service disruption and alternatives available through our website and social media, as well as signage in the building lobby.
  • visitors who wish to access services can contact us via phone or email and request services (where feasible) in an accessible venue.

Accessible emergency information

ACT is committed to providing service users, volunteers, and visitors with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way upon request. We will also provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when required.

Training

ACT provides training to staff and volunteers on Ontario’s accessibility laws and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Training is provided in a way that best suits the duties of employees, volunteers and other staff members.

Information and communications

ACT is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities. ACT’s new website and content is WCAG 2.0, Level A compliant. ACT will ensure that feedback processes are available in other formats (including large print). ACT will ensure that all publicly available information is made accessible upon request – for example, in large print format.

Employment

ACT is committed to fair and accessible employment practices. We will take the following steps to notify the public and staff that, when requested, ACT will accommodate people with disabilities during the recruitment and assessment processes and when people are hired:

  • include this commitment on all internal and external job postings.
  • ensure job postings are available in large print format if requested.
  • during the assessment process, notify job applicants that accommodations are available upon request. If the applicant is hired, ensure they are consulted to arrange necessary accommodations.

ACT has developed and put in place a process for developing individual accommodation plans and return-to-work policies for employees that have been absent due to a disability.

We will ensure that all employees are measured against the core competencies of their job, regardless of any workplace accommodations they may require when using performance management, career development and redeployment processes.
