Pride Month & ACT
While ACT encourages the community to live Pride all year long, June is Pride month in Toronto and around the world. It represents our opportunity to be more vocal in celebrating progress and acknowledging the work that still needs to be done towards equality and acceptance.
For ACT, Pride is our moment to bring to light current issues related to HIV health and prevention, and to address other sexual and mental health issues that are at the forefront of the support ACT provides – support made possible by the generous donor community.
Here is just a sampling of programs in support of gay, bi, queer guys and trans folk – of course, these programs don’t just occur in June – they’re offered all year long – and are FREE, with your generous support.
Pride Outreach – ACT staff and outreach volunteers will be at all the bars, parties and bathhouses throughout Pride Month and beyond. They will also be present at Hanlan’s Point. They are around to share information, hand out harm reduction and safer sex supplies, and to answer any questions you might have. Click here to find out more about our Outreach & Community Education.
Condom Distribution – ACT is one of the largest distributors of free condoms and lube packs in Toronto. Locations across the city, including bars, clinics and bathhouses carry ACT condoms, which come with the most current sexual health information. With nearly 200,000 distributed each year, we need an army to assemble these packs, and you can volunteer and support at one of our condom stuffing parties… or plan your own with your company or business and give back! Click here to find out more about Condom Distribution.
Positive Youth Outreach (PYO) – a program for young people living with and affected by HIV led by young people living with HIV. The goal is to help young people obtain a happier, healthier life where they’re engaged and active with peers and community. Click here to find out more about PYO.
Groups for Gay, Bi, Queer Guys – ACT offers a variety of psychoeducational and social support groups for gay, bi, queer guys regardless of HIV status. There are groups on body image, anxiety, substance use, and groups for gay men living with HIV… even a social Gay Men’s Coffee Night. Click here to find out more about our Groups.
Counselling – ACT offers FREE counselling for people living with HIV and those concerned about their risk of HIV. This includes counselling specifically for gay, bi, queer and trans folk. It’s confidential and supportive of your individual needs. Click here to find out more about Counselling at ACT.
Gay, Bi, Queer & Trans Health Access – ACT’s new website www.healthcareaccessto.com provides interventions, resources and campaigns to help connect two-spirit, gay, bi, queer, trans and non-binary and cis folks with the most adequate healthcare services focused on greater ease, confidence and comfort. This includes support trans folks with their health navigation. Click here to check out Healthcare Access TO.
Our website includes countless other programs that support 2SLGBTQ+ folks with HIV care, treatment and prevention, as well as sexual and mental health support.
Support from community and campaigns like our Identity Wings makes that support possible!
